The water at Monte Gordo is notably warmer than at the beaches further west — the proximity of the Guadiana estuary and the south-facing coast contribute to temperatures of up to 24–25°C in summer.
The town has a good range of accommodation, supermarkets, pharmacies and transport to Vila Real de Santo António (10 min) and Spain. It is a good logistical base for exploring the East Algarve.
