Walks near Cacela Velha with distances from official sources or measured: the village, Manta Rota, the Castro Marim marsh trails, Tavira and the Monte Gordo forest. What is out of date and what I could not confirm.

Near Cacela Velha there are short, easy walks, almost all flat. This guide covers the ones I could verify, with the distance and source of each, and says what is out of date or what I could not confirm. I did not walk the routes: the distances come from the sources given.

  • Not confirmed: times for most routes, the current state of the paths and signage.

Cacela Velha and around

  • The village: see the one-hour route. The fort cannot be visited inside.
  • Cacela Velha → Manta Rota: Wikipedia mentions walking routes along the Ria Formosa between the beach and the village, with a fossil cliff, traces of a Roman road, dunes and salt marshes (Wikipedia). On the OpenStreetMap walking route, Manta Rota beach to the village is about 2.7 km. The AllTrails listing gives 6.1 km and 1 to 1.5 hours and, in a June 2026 review, says the path from Cacela Velha was closed (AllTrails). This is user data: ask on site. See Manta Rota.
  • Fábrica beach: the municipality says you can reach it on foot from Manta Rota. Do not cross the lagoon on foot: the municipality and the National Maritime Authority advise against it, especially at ebb tide. See Fábrica beach and the tides.
